The Academy Award-nominated actress Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran passed away at the age of 89.
The star, whose credits included National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, passed away at home in Ojai, California. This announcement was revealed via an announcement by her child, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern, her daughter.
Dern, who appeared with her mom in a number of films like Rambling Rose, referred to her as “my wonderful hero and my profound gift as a mother”, stating that she was by her side as she died.
“She was the most wonderful mother, daughter, grandmother, actress, artist as well as caring individual that felt like a dream come true,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”
Ladd’s early career saw minor parts in TV shows like The Fugitive whereas the 1970s saw her starring next to actor Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.
That very year, 1974, she performed alongside Ellen Burstyn in Martin Scorsese’s celebrated comedy drama the movie Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. The performance earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination as best supporting actress.
During the eighties, she starred in crime thriller Black Widow, a suspense story as well as humorous film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and appeared on Alice, a television series derived from the film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

The decade also brought her Emmy nominations for work on Dr Quinn, Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel.
She kept appearing alongside her daughter in dramatic comedies Daddy and Them, a movie, David Lynch’s Inland Empire and White’s satirical show Enlightened, a TV series. She additionally starred with Sandra Bullock, a star in the film 28 Days, Sir Anthony Hopkins in The World’s Fastest Indian plus Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, a biographical drama.
Subsequent TV appearances featured Ray Donovan, a drama and Young Sheldon.
She additionally penned and helmed the humorous movie Mrs Munck, a film featuring her and previous spouse Bruce Dern, an actor. “Bruce is a great actor,” she noted. “I’m privileged to have directed him on a project. In 2018, Ladd was misdiagnosed with lung disease and informed she only had half a year left yet she recovered completely after her daughter moved her to a new hospital.
