The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
