Former Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor stands accused of committing sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

These allegations follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors outline the 45 charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
