Information Available Regarding the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 lives lost their lives and over 40 sustained injuries when gunmen fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police are describing as a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the death toll is 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were admitted to medical facilities.

Those who died are still awaiting publicly named, but investigators think their ages range from 10 and 87 years old.

Below are the victims who have been identified to date.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.

She recounted the moments before the attack, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the message read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was also killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with five in a critical state. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Called a hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
