Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.

Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the American officials has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
