The American champion Assured of Being 'in prime form' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after securing a top-three finish for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
