Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
