The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
