The co-creator of Call of Duty, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California at the age of 55.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The renowned industry figure died after his automobile collided and burst into flames on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his loved ones, and all those touched by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
