When an teenage creates Real Madrid a historic moment in a pivotal Champions League tie against City, it inevitably draws acclaim and attention.
During his maiden start in the competition - and fifth appearance for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the 15-time European champions claimed a three-nil round of 16 first-leg lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also had his club debut in the play-off round a month ago with a cameo off the bench at Benfica, then assisted the Madrid side overcome the English Premier League side in the midweek second leg to confirm a last eight berth.
At 18 years old, Pitarch became the team's most youthful starter to begin two matches in the Champions League's latter rounds, beating star Vinicius Jr's previous mark by 10 days.
The midfielder is the most recent to emerge from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of the manager's most promising protegees.
He joined Madrid from CD Leganes in the summer of 2023, having previously been with Atletico and Getafe's youth teams, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he rapidly created a positive impact.
Pitarch progressed to the reserve side and it was during a friendly match in which they played against the senior squad, then managed by the former defender, where the youngster is said to have caught the attention of the present manager, who took over from Xabi Alonso in January.
Spanish media would later label the moment as "an instant connection," noting he stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, personality and determination he brought to the side.
In the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso invited the youngster to train with the senior squad and gave him playing time during the warm-up matches.
However, it was Arbeloa's appointment that became the turning point in his development as he was introduced as a late substitute in both ties against the Portuguese side that set up the clash with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I've dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the very first time I began playing football, every day you go to train and each day you play a match," stated the player after his debut.
"I've just fulfilled my ambition with the best team in the planet and in the best competition."

"He's a very quick player, and you can see his capabilities," said Arbeloa. "He is extremely dynamic, with excellent stamina, effort and mobility."

"His standout trait is his personality," added Arbeloa. "He always wants the ball, and even under pressure, he doesn't feel it.
"I understand people are surprised to see him start in a Champions League match, but he is selected because I had complete confidence in him to do his normal game.
"He will keep receiving opportunities with the main squad. It's a pleasure to have a player like him."
Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Madrid region, and was raised fully immersed in the local game, moving through local academies before entering Real Madrid's renowned youth academy.
He holds dual Moroccan and Spanish nationality, giving him the option to represent both nations at senior international level.
According to international regulations, footballers may appear for different countries at junior level without being locked in, with the ultimate choice only final once they play in a official full international.
Pitarch has played for Spain at underage levels, turning out for both the under-19 and under-20 sides, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where Spain reached the quarter-finals.
Nevertheless, he has yet to commit to either senior national team, who are monitoring his progress with keen attention.
In a recent interview, Pitarch said: "I haven't made my final decision yet. Things are great with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a conclusion soon."
His situation mirrors that of other bi-national players such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal. While teenage Lamine opted for Spain, Diaz decided to represent the Atlas Lions.
At present, Pitarch's focus is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.
