Wimbledon Introduces Video Review Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon court with video review technology

The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the ability to contest particular rulings made by the official, echoing the practice currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.

This development follows just a season following the All England Club rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review other situations, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Potential interference end of a rally.

Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.

Practical Application

An illustrative incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.

In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
